No Greater Love

Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.

John 15:13

What’s all the hype about, really? We celebrate Valentine’s Day with chocolate and various gifts, believing that we are showing those we love just how much they mean to us.

But greater love has no one than Jesus, because He lay down His life for us all.

What if Valentine’s Day became an opportunity to declare not our own, flawed love for one another, but rather point our beloveds to the one who loves them with a perfect, complete, everlasting love?

There is no greater love!

Flowers will wilt and die. Chocolate will mold and be tossed in the trash.

Wait. What am I saying?! Chocolate doesn’t get wasted! Haha! It will, however, add unnecessary calories to our already surpassed waistline requirements!

But love, love from God through Jesus, now that’s transformational unlike anything else! That’s healing love. Freeing love.

We are missing the mark, wasting time and resources, when holding hands with any other love.

Drink of God’s love through Christ’s sacrifice on the Cross, and never thirst again! (John 4:13-14)

I pray that out of His glorious riches He may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.
