She Laughs (Come What May)

Proverbs 31 talks about the woman of wisdom, and one characteristic that gets highlighted is her ability to laugh without fear of the future.

We are living in very uncertain times, and more so, times where laughter feels altogether disrespectful with the amount of fear and turmoil taking place. But the ability to laugh without fear of the future is a beautiful representation of a heart that’s settled in God’s goodness and faithfulness.

Laughter can be a by-product of deeply-rooted peace.

Jesus told a parable of two builders – a wise man who built his house upon a rock, and a foolish man who built his house on sand.

What’s interesting to me about this story is that both heard the words of Jesus. It’s what they chose to do with the information afterward that made a difference to their long-term satisfaction and stability.

After hearing and reading the word of God, we have a choice.

Do we build the rest of our life on the firm foundation of His truth?

  • growing hope through perseverance
  • storing treasures in heaven rather than on earth

    OR

Do we continue to build with materials of this world?

  • ignoring wisdom and indulging passions that won’t satisfy
  • finding our security in wealth, title, or other false glories

The storm is promised.

Isn’t that a potentially-disturbing thought?! But it’s true!

The storm is promised, because we are living in a fallen world, a world that aches and groans for the return of our Lord and Savior Jesus. And He is returning. Soon and very soon we are going to see the King. Soon and very soon, sin and all it’s consequences will be eternally removed.

In the meantime, in wisdom, we press on through heartache, pain, sickness, and disease with our eyes fixed on Jesus. With our confidence in Him alone.

When the storm hits, and it will, there are two possible outcomes:

  • Destruction – brokenness, despair, and overwhelming anxiety.
    OR
  • Victory – standing strong, gloriously peaceful, and laughing (joyful) without fear.

Victory is our reality when our foundation is built on Jesus

He came that we might have abundant life in the midst of the storms.

I wonder what it would look like for us to be completely free from the unrest that is crashing around us, for our hearts to be utterly unafraid?

I wonder what it would look like to confidently declare:

Come What May, My Feet are on the Rock and My Hope is Secure.

Lord, Let It Be So.

Come What May

Our days are not guaranteed to be easy
Troubles and trials abound.

Tomorrow may bring sickness or sadness,
But this I know to be true:

Come what may
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases.

Come what may
My eyes
Have seen the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.
My lips
Have tasted and seen that He is good.
My spirit
Has witnessed the refreshment of quiet waters.
My life
Has been redeemed with hope and peace.

And I know that He is faithful and good.

Come what may
I can laugh without fear of the future.
I can sing for joy and be glad.

Come what may
My heart will rejoice in the God of my salvation
And I will be satisfied
With His love.
