For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
2 Corinthians 10:3-5 NIV
Attention all New Creations (2 Corinthians 5:17)! Your super-hero status has been activated. Forget the tights, this is glorified business!
The war rages. The enemy is in hurrah mode, he’s not got much time left! Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is this: put on the armor of God, and stand your ground in the Spirit. You’re on demolition duty!
Arguments, falsehoods, and division. Lies we hear around us and lies we hear within. These are “bat signals”, alerting us to flee the flesh and armor up!
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. – Ephesians 6:10-13 ESV
Your villain is dirty. He’s sneaky. Masquerading as an angel of light and a wolf in sheep’s clothing; he’s a lion on the prowl, ready to devour. But he’s not clothed in flesh; and as a Spirit-led Super-Hero, neither are you.
Is your armor on yet?
The Belt of Truth: Truth holds us upright; it secures us. To know the truth is to be set free—running and not growing weary while fighting the good fight of faith.
The Breastplate of Righteousness: We are made righteous through Christ. This promise guards our hearts. It’s a sure defence that we need not be trodden, defeated, and hopeless. We’ve been given life, abundantly!
The Shoes of Peace: Preparing our feet for the journey, peace settles us and steers us. It’s the call to separate from anxiety and maneuver in the holy realm with a confident, sober mind.
The Shield of Faith: Turn left or turn right, in holding your shield of faith you can declare the assurance of your salvation by grace and refute all else. It’s grace that saves. It’s grace that shelters us in victory, dissolving enemy arrows meant to destroy.
The Helmet of Salvation: Our knowledge of salvation assures us of hope beyond circumstance, and even death. It’s this hope that shelters our minds and keeps us rejoicing, with eyes fixed on the glory that awaits in the unseen elements of faith.
Oh, wait! One more thing, your offense! You didn’t think you’d be all bark and no bite, now did you?
Here! Grab hold of your sword—The Sword of the Spirit. The Word of God. Now swing it around! Powerful, right?
For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. – Hebrews 4:12 ESV
In knowing the sovereign strength of God’s Word, why do we trust in anything else for our victory?
Beloved, you have the “green light” to destroy anything in the spiritual realm standing against you. Capture it, like light exposing the darkness. Then, obliterate it with your Sword.
Righteous anger should rise at the witness of enemy lies. Holy indignation should bellow at the red-handed sight of stealing, killing, and destroying (John 10:10).
No cowering. No despair. No defeat. Through Christ you’re clothed in super-hero status. You’re more than a conqueror, with an assured, overwhelming victory (Romans 8:37).
Stand your ground! Declare God’s Word over the situation, and watch the enemy tremble and flee (James 4:7).
Breaking strongholds, capturing thoughts, diffusing runaway emotions by standing on the truth…
You are the super-hero this world needs; a light in the darkness and an immovable force of truth and righteousness. You’re on demolition duty. Go, familiarize yourself with your weaponry. Nourish yourself in Scripture—in all it’s richness—so when your “bat signal” flares, you’re ready for action.
