The Watchman’s Cry

In Ezekial 33:1-9, we read of the prophet as a watchman over Israel. God sets the stage for observation of and deliverance from evil at the hand of one stationed in truth, eyes open, and voice ready to cry out.

The watchman still applies to believers today. The difference: we are all watchman, stationed as light in the darkness and pointing to the One who redeems; the only Way, Truth, and Life—Jesus Christ.

The lion still lurks today.

This is a battleground not a playground.

Beloved, although I was very eager to write to you about our common salvation, I found it necessary to write appealing to you to contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints.
For certain people have crept in unnoticed who long ago were designated for this condemnation, ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into sensuality and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.
- Jude vs 3-4 (ESV)

The prevalence of deception calls for dedication to truth and a willingness to stand against it.

Set apart. Supernaturally courageous.

Contending. Trusting. Enabled.

We are watchman. Will we stand? Will we shine?

The Watchman’s Cry

I am a watchman
Eyes up
Scanning the horizon for invading darkness.

I am a watchman
Eyes down
Digesting God’s word for freedom’s sake.

I am a watchman
I can’t not cry out!

Loud and languished
Sincere and faith-filled

Listen!

It’s love that stations me
It’s truth that guides me
It’s light that beckons me on

I am a watchman
I can’t not cry out!

Established in grace
Rooted in righteousness
Overflowing with blessed hope

I am a watchman
Pressing on
Abiding
Contending for the faith

Beware!

Deception prowls
But will not prevail.

The promise remains:
Light shines in the darkness
And the darkness cannot overcome it.

Only keep your lamps lit!
Stay alert!

I am a watchman
My feet are on the Rock

Steady
Secure
I will not be shaken.
